About Becca Bakes Cake
Becca Bakes Cake started in 2013 as a cottage kitchen industry selling cupcakes at local farmers markets. Since that time, this labor of love has grown tremendously, especially in the custom order side. Whenever possible, I use only the highest quality, most natural ingredients available to ensure the best cupcake possible. Many of my customers also say that I add a cup of love to each batch!
At various events, I am always asked two questions. First, how old are you and secondly, how did you get started in cupcakes? I am now 22 years old, but started my business at 17. However, I grew up helping in the kitchen and have always enjoyed baking.
The answer to the second question is a little harder. When I was 13, I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I underwent numerous brain surgeries, radiation, and 15 months of chemotherapy. Needless to say, I spent many weeks in the hospital. During that time, one of the few channels that we were able to get in the hospital included the Food Network, which hosts Cupcake Wars. I watched many episodes during treatment and then afterwards while I was in recovery, still too ill and weak to be out much. The show intrigued me with the baking challenges and I began working to perfect my own recipes.
While I enjoy all aspects of Becca Bakes Cake, one opportunity that it provides me with is very near and dear to my heart. I have been blessed with being able to provide cupcakes for charity and fundraising events. It is so rewarding to be able to give back to the people who helped me when I needed it most. I hope to be able to expand the philanthropic side of the business as BBC continues to grow.
